This one did have the ‘aww how cute!’ factor going for it when I saw the cover, but what made me purchase it was the cute little comic strip on the back cover of the volume. The cute little comic has the girl looking anxiously at the boy on the cover, and he looks really ill. Apparently he just ate her cooking and has to rush to the bathroom ^^;;; (It is cute, really ^^;) Anyway, this manga is by Yukako IISAKA, who also drew “Tasukete! Vampire” another manga I summarize on this page. I really liked her other work, so I gave this one a shot. And sure enough, this one has a lot of fun characters and situations! Okay, so the plot isn’t exactly original, especially comparing it to the other series I talk about on this page. However I still really liked this one!

The main thing I enjoyed about this manga, besides the cute plot that I seem to find in so many manga volumes I buy, is the heroine. Her name is Michiru, and she’s a 16 year old high school girl. I like her so much because of the way she reacts to all of the events that happen in the course of the story. Her responses and reactions are so funny, and so much like how I imagine I would react if the same things happened to me ^_^ I think Michiru is one of the few manga heroines who gets reaction-nosebleeds like guys usualy do in shounen manga stories when confronted with a cute girl (in her case, a cute guy) or erotic idea. The idea is, I think, that the boy sees something ‘stimulating’ and the blood rushes to their face and head, and they get a nosebleed. Just like guys, Michiru gets a nosebleed whenever she thinks of the hero of this story, a guy named Akira. Akira happens to be a popular idol singer. (wow, another idol singer!) He is adored by just about every teenage girl in Japan, Michiru included. One day when walking home from school holding her prized possetion, a new Akira poster, she bumps into someone and drops her poster. And the person she runs into steps on it!

In the middle of yelling at the stranger for stepping on her beloved Akira poster, Michiru realizes that (you guessed it) the guy she ran into was none other than Akira himself! (If we could all only be so lucky!) Akira is on the run, being chased by a frightening horde of drooling fangirls. To hide himself from the crowd, he grabs Michiru and holds her close, until the girls run by. Wai! Michiru is so excited to be in the arms of her idol! Finally he releases her, and with a kiss on the cheek and a ‘thank you’, he runs off. Ahh, heaven! Michiru gets the first of many explosive nosebleeds at the thought of being in Akira’s arms 🙂 Later Michiru gets home and is greeted by her mother who has some good news. She is getting married! Michiru is excited for her mother, and agrees to go to the dinner that her mother has planned so Michiru can meet her new stepfather. I think you may be able to guess where this is heading ^_^ At the dinner, her mother introduces Michiru to her new stepfather and her new stepbrother… you got it. Her new stepbrother is Akira! (ahhh cosmic coincidences in shoujo manga! 🙂 So now you know the set up. Michiru now has the guy she adores as a step brother! That means living with him! But things don’t go smoothly for Michiru. There are the usual obstacles in the path of true love, and it’s really fun to see how it turns out! 🙂
