This manga was purchased on the recommendation of a friend of mine who had read the series in Chinese and said it was really good. I found the series in Japanese at the store and really liked the covers, so I decided to pick it up. My friend was right, it is a nifty story. It is sort of like a less-cheezy Kaikan Phrase, with more shoujo manga angst thrown in, and less er.. smut ^^ (Hey now, I ADMIT that I LIKE the cheezy trashiness of Kaikan Phrase, but this series is.. tamer ^_^) Hmm perhaps it is like Kaikan Phrase combined with Ami! Nonstop Yes yes, it involves a cute idol singer. And a cute high school girl.

The first volume begins with a prologue that sets up much of the dramatic angst that will permeate the rest of the series. In the prologue, we are introduced to a girl named Mayu-chan. She is a big fan of this popular idol singer guy named Yuya. One day Mayu takes a date with her to a Yuya concert, but her date falls alseep during the show. He is less than impressed with the handsome idol, and is sick of Mayu always talking about him. He leaves Mayu at the concert, and she is left to wander around by herself after the show. After the concert she decides to go to a karaoke bar. She and her friends go there a lot. When Mayu sings, her voice is so lovely and pure that it grabs the attention of someone else at the Karaoke place- a guy who looks suspiciously like Yuya himself. well OF COURSE it turns out to be Yuya in disguise. Mayu realizes this, and is thrilled. They spend the day together doing all sorts of fun stuff, and Mayu finds herself falling totally in love with Yuya. Yuya is similarily enchanted, and by the end of the day the two of them …er… get to know each other a LOT better.

However things are not to be for the couple, as Mayu disappears from Yuya’s life. They are from 2 different worlds, he is a famous star, and she is a normal girl. They end up apart, and he can’t even remember her name.

This is the prologue that lays the groundwork for what happens next. Mayu, once again at a karaoke place, is overheard singing by another guy. This time it is not Yuya, but a guy named Tougo. He isn’t famous, but he has a band, and he thinks Mayu would be PERFECT for it. After much coercing, Mayu finally joins the group, and is on her way to stardom of her own. Slowly becoming a famous idol in her own right, Mayu will of course cross paths again with the one guy she has been longing for. Yep, Yuya has taken an interest in Mayu’s new band. Tougo senses that Mayu and Yuya have a past together, and this makes him jealous, as he finds himself attracted to her as well…. For other plot twists, they throw in Kotone, a girl who is connected to Tougo, and is the guitarist in a rival band that Yuya ALSO takes an interest in. Woo hoo!
