I just couldn’t resist including this manga on my page! It’s one of CLAMP’s most recent, and apparently lesser-known series, ‘Suki. Dakara Suki’. And it is a bit different than most of CLAMP’s other works to date. The art is drawn by Mick NEKOI, who is also the artist for CLAMP’s WISH, Watashi no Suki na Hito, and Card Captor Sakura. However, if I had not already known this was a CLAMP work, I would have not recognized it as such by the art. It’s very very different! It is a story that doesn’t have any magical or futuristic elements in it. (At least not yet anyway. I am beginning to wonder though…) CLAMP series usually tend to have magic of some sort, but this one is

It’s the story of ASAHI Hinata (‘Hina’ to everyone) an average grade school girl. Well not quite average, as she lives all by herself with no one but 2 teddy bears to keep her company. Hina is the very ‘genki’ or healthy/cheerful type. The series begins on a snowy night when Hina meets her new neighbor for the first time. His name is Shirou ASOU, and he turns out to be her new teacher at school. Now Asou-sensei is a real…quiet, calm sort of guy. A bit of a stick in the mud. When Hina makes friends with him, she brightens up his life considerably. They contrast in character in a similar was as Kouhaku and Seiichirou do in CLAMP’s WISH manga. (But without the wings 🙂 Asou-sensei grows to like Hina, and even shows some displays of affection towards her. Hina decides rather quickly that she likes him. But there seems to be another reason why Asou stays near Hina. True, he is a teacher at her school, and the apartment next to Hina’s was unoccupied, but his presence is more than mere coincidence. Hina has actually been the target of kidnappings in the past, and it turns out that Asou has been hired by Hina’s father to protect her. But will his feelings really extend beyond that of businessman/client or even teacher student? Does he really like Hina in the same way she likes him? I am not really sure how far their relationship will go, given their age differences, but considering the relationship between Rika and the teacher in CLAMP’s Card Captor Sakura, you never can tell… Anyway, the manga runs in Asuka’s Mystery DX. Because it runs in this monthly, it makes me wonder if some sort of serious or magical plot twist will be coming. CLAMP seems to like that stuff!
