The cover of this random manga intrigued me. I liked the artwork, and I wanted to find out who this guy with the grumpy/arrogant expression on his face was. Also there is a small picture on the back of this volume of a grungy looking guy with blond hair and stubble. He looked odd too. So I bought this to learn more about them. This turned out to be a pretty cool buy. This artist’s style reminds me of Hisaya Nakajo. Everyone in this volume looks very cool with ultra hip wardrobes and hairstyles. There are 2 stories in this tankoubon. The first one takes up 2/3 of the book and is the actual ‘Good Father’ story. The second story in the back is called ‘For Love’ (Ai no tame ni)
‘Good Father’ begins with a high school girl named Saya-chan telling her boyfriend Yuki that she wants to introduce him to her father. Yuki agrees to this, but is pretty nervous. Saya-chan really wants Yuki to meet her dad though, so Yuki goes with her to meet him. Saya-chan grew up with no mother. Her mother died when she was about 3 years old, and since then it has been just her and her dad. Yuki realizes it is important to Saya-chan, but he begins to feel even more nervous when he discovers that Saya’s father is not your ‘normal’ father. He is only 35 years old, and owns one of the most cool night clubs in the city. Not only that, but he is also the DJ there! When Yuki first sees Saya’s father he is surprised, the guy looks very young and dangerous! Saya’s father us dressed in a combination of cool and grungy club clothes, has spiked bleached blond hair, and these sunglasses he never seems to take off. When Saya’s father meets Yuki, her father is less than thrilled to meet him. Saya-chan is his baby girl, and the thought of her having some boyfriend, especially one that seems so uncool as Yuki. So the sparks fly as Saya’s father bluntly (and with his fist) expresses his displeasure with Saya’s choice in boyfriends. (ouch, poor Yuki!) Uh oh, what should Saya and Yuki do? Saya-chan really wants her father to approve of her choice! Fortunately for Yuki, one of Saya-chan’s father’s friends (he is also a DJ) arrives on the scene, and he has a solution that could help Yuki win acceptance! But will it work? Ahh that is why you have to pick up the manga. heheheheh 🙂
