How could I possibly go for so long without another cross-dressing idol singer manga summary? ^__^ I love idol singer manga! Japan’s whole idol industry amazes me. In the shoujo manga world there are talent scouts everywhere, lurking where you least expect them, ready to discover hot new talent. Actually, believe it or not, this seems to be true of real-life Tokyo too. When I was there a few years ago, I was actually approached by a talent scout who asked if I would be available to do a photo shoot for a rather well-known band’s cd cover. I was shocked (especially as I was a random gaijin who does not look like a model at all). It was totally like a shoujo manga! Unfortunately I had to fly back to the US before the time of the shoot. I am still kicking myself over that -_- I am so glad a friend of mine was with me at the time, so I have a witness! Anyway, I digress. This is a fun and romantic little one shot. The art is nice, even though the plot is less than original. Naturally, the cute shirtless guy on cover, eating jewelery is a great visual draw! The idol story takes up half of the book.
TAKAISHI Minori is a perky and cute fastfood worker who is adored by all the female customers because she looks like a teen idol. A MALE teen idol. Minori is a tomboy and has short hair, so she is often mistaken for a bishounen. One day after work, Minori spots an unfair fight going on, with several guys ganging up on one. Because she is a rather impulsive and outgoing girl. Minori leaps down into th emiddle of the fight, ready to even the odds… only to be mortified to learn that she landed right in the middle of a music video shoot for the popular boy band GOLD! She is dazzled by Tomoya, the leader of GOLD, and total hottie. Minori apologizes for her mistake and goes along her way, but not before one of GOLD’s managers sees her and gets a great idea…
You can guess where this is going… Minori is recruited by the manager to be the newest member of GOLD! But to join she has to crossdress as a bishounen and go by the name of ‘Minoru’. Minori agrees to this, and embarks on a career as a male idol, trying to learn the idol business and keep her secret from the rest of the band the adoring public. Being an idol is hard work. Will Minori be able to keep up? Can she keep her secret?
The next story is… what?! ANOTHER teacher-student romance? Well, er, yeah… what can I say, I seem to be a student-teacher romance magnet o.o I don’t know how I manage it. Anyway, this is actually a school-doctor/student romance, where the woman is the school doctor, and she falls for a student at the school. She tries to resist the attraction, but you know that school infirmary bed is going to see some action sooner or later. ^_^; Those hot-blooded high school boys are persistent!
There is one final very short story about a girl and a photographer she meets and poses for.
All in all, this is a cute book, even though it features many standard Shoujo Plot Devices. I always enjoy reading various author’s version of this type of plot. The art is nice too. I wish the first story was longer though! ^_^
