I have always liked Emiko Sugi’s works, but I must admit that over the years they have become a lot more… cheezy ^_^;; I suppose that is a given, considering she is doing manga for a magazine called CHEESE, but it is still amazing to notice the difference between her older series and her newer ones. The new stories are a lot more sexy! At any rate, I like Emiko Suhi’s art style usually, and I really like covers that use this sort of pop art halftone dot shading, and the character is really cute. But the lack of whites in her eyes really freaks me out! Anyway, the story in this is just so silly and cliche shoujo-manga ish, that I can’t help but giggle while I read it. Yeah, this is a Guilty Pleasure!
Riko MITSUMI is not your typical 16 year old high school girl. She has a great secret that would shock everyone if they knew it. Sure, she appears normal, looks cute, and spaces out in class like everyone else. But her daydreams are shocking… they are always about sex! (I love a female manga character who can get nosebleeds too ^_^) The reason for this is Riko’s secret life outside of school. Thanks to her aunt, who is an editor for CHEEKY, a fashion magazine for women, Riko is a secret writer! Under the pen name ‘R-18’, Riko writes a very sexy column called the ‘R-18 Report’. They are ‘Love Essays’ with very erotic content. All the girls at Riko’s school can’t stop talking about how great the R-18 column is, but none of them have any idea that their classmate Riko is the author!
Even more amazing is that Riko writes all these essays without having any actual experience at sex! She reads a lot and watches adult movies for all of her research! She doesn’t even have a boyfriend, but that is about to change. As if her daily life wasn’t strange enough, things get even stranger one day when she finds a naked guy in the art classroom at school! He’s totally gorgeous, and appears to be sleeping on the classroom floor, barely covered by a sheet. But as Riko approaches him, he wakes up and, naturally, kisses her! (This IS a shoujo manga, after all!) Riko freaks out after the kiss and drops her cellphone. He picks it up and sees an R-18 text script on the screen. He figures out right away that Riko must be the mysterious R-18! This strange guy’s name is Minato, and he is a mysterious guy. He works many part time jobs, including as a model for the art class, but he also seems to be a gigolo who dates many women! Minato is interested in Riko, and is more than happy to help her do some… research for her erotic articles… but his own secret identity makes things even more complicated!
