Oh this volume is so cute! I actually got this one for the title, instead of the cover art for once 🙂 Though the cover is really cute 🙂 The title,”‘Tasukette! Vampire” , or “Help! Vampire!” seemed like a lot of fun, I like vampire stories, and as this one looked like it would be a romantic-comedy, I really couldn’t resist ^_^ This volume contains 4 stories, the first 2 involving our cute vampire boy on the cover. The first story starts with that blond girl, Hina, out shopping with her boyfriend, Natsuki. They come across a fortune- teller’s shop, and Hina persuades Natsuki to take her inside. It’s very spooky and atmospheric in the shop, and Hina starts to get really nervous when they meet the mysterious shrouded fortune teller inside. The fortune teller makes Hina even more nervous when she(?) begins to say stuff about Hina’s past! Natsuki looks skeptical, but Hina says that everything the fortune teller says is true. The main thing the fortune teller focuses on is an event that happened when Hina was little- she was in an accident and almost hit by a car. Hina is surprised the teller knows this, but is even more surprised when the teller claims that she must go back to insure that she is saved!
What?? Before Hina can blink, she is zapped and suddenly finds herself back in time, in the early 80’s! All Natsuki can do is gasp as Hina fades away in his arms! Now here is where the fun kicks in as in the past, Hina has various adventures, including meeting a mysterious guy with black hair and fangs! It starts to get a little confusing here, which is not surprising in time-travel stories 🙂 Anyway, this story seems to be the set-up for a love-triangle of sorts between Hina, Natsuki (who is also really cool, btw) and our vampire boy, Hibiki. I recently learned that the stories in this volume are background/side stories for characters that appear in another volume by this manga author called “Vampire! Vampire!”. I Must get this other manga! Wah!
Anyway, The second story involves Natsuki getting possessed by some sort of demonic force, and threatening Hina. What I found most interesting about these 2 vampire stories was what looks like an unusual resolution to the typical shoujo manga love triangle situation ^^ You’ll have to see for yourself! The other 2 stories in the volume involve 2 jr-high (early high school?) students stuck taking care of a baby, and a typical high school romance story between a girl and a boy on the soccer team ^_^; 🙂
