This volume was purchased online after I read a very disjointed, incoherent altavista translation of the plot description. What I pieced together from the translation seemed somewhat interesting, so I decided to give the volume a shot. I am glad I did! This is the first series by this author that I have purchased, and I am now interested in researching other series by her. I know that after this volume I will be looking forward to volume 2! I wasn’t sure if I really liked the art style in this at first because sometimes the mangaka uses screentone shading in unusual ways, but I finally got used to it, and now I rather like it.
The story begins with a phone call. A girl named Emi answers the phone, and is rather surprised when the voice on the other line introduces himself as Junta TORIMI and then blurts out that he likes/loves her! Unfortunately, then he calls her Miki, not Emi, and Emi immediately realizes that the call was meant for her older sister. But before she can explain to the Junta that he has the wrong person, he hangs up. Emi is not that surprised that a boy is calling to confess his feelings for her sister. After all, Miki is beautiful, smart, and kind. Emi loves her very much. However, Emi does not tell her sister about the phone call.
The next day is Emi’s first day of high school. She is a 1st year student, while her sister is a 3rd year. Much to her shock, she realizes that the cute boy she was eying at the opening ceremony is in her class, and that his name is Junta TORIMI! During their self-introductions in class, Junta realizes that Emi must be Miki’s sister, and Emi confesses to him that it was she that took his phone call, not Miki. He is mortified, and relieved at the same time. But poor Emi. She is developing feelings for Junta already, but he is hopelessly infatuated with her perfect older sister! Emi has feelings of jealousy for her sister, but then a startling secret her older sister has been keeping is made known, and Emi’s perspective on her family is changed forever. Plus she has to deal with her growing affection for Junta, who loves another. I really liked volume 1, especially the ending, and look forward to volume 2 😀
