For once I didn’t purchase a manga because of the cover art! What got me was the title- “My Cat is a Prince.” Now how can I possibly resist something like that? I wish my cat was a prince, hehehe ^_^ I like catboys! I had all sorts of nice thoughts going into this series, and while it didn’t turn out to be quite what the title suggests, I still loved it. I finished this manga with such a nice, warm, fuzzy, HAPPY feeling, I just had to share this with others! 🙂 This is a cute shoujo romance story with magic and fantasy elements.
Now when most parents go on vacation, or are away from home for work, their kids naturally expect them to bring home some sort of souvenir for them. Miyako is no exception. Her father works as a cameraman, and he does a lot of travel to exotic places, taking beautiful pictures. At the beginning of this story, Miyako and her younger sister are expecting their father home at any minute, and wonder what sort of gift from his travels he has brought for them. What they get is something they never could have expected!
For Miyako’s younger sister Akane, their papa has brought a really nice necklace made of shells or stones. But for Miyako she not only gets a necklace, she gets a… boy. Yes! Miyako’s papa has returned from his travels with a boy for Miyako! He is tall and handsome, with tanned skin and long blond hair. He says his name is Kyatto (or ‘Cat’) and he is the prince of the island that her father just got back from. He is about to turn 15 years old, and now he belongs to Miyako! He even claims she is his wife! They are fated to be together, it is destiny!
Now despite the cuteness of her new, uh.. fiance, Miyako is not all that thrilled to find herself suddenly attached to this mysterious boy. She tries to resist, but this is one of those ridiculous situations where none of her arguments help. 🙂 Cat and his servant Sonou (also a really cute and elegant bishounen ^_^) move in, and Cat makes himself at home. Cat does his best to get to know Miyako better, but she is stubborn. She insists that she doesn’t like him. When he asks her what she DOES love, she replies that she loves the wind. On the day that her mother died, Miyako was feeling sad and alone. Then she found an abandoned kitten under a tree, and when she picked it up, she felt comforted. Then a comforting wind swirled up around her, and soothed her sadness. This is why she loves the wind. But she still hates Cat! However Cat has some amazing magic up his sleeve, and a secret that he has kept from Miyako.
This manga starts off as sort of a twist on shounen manga series where a dorky guy suddenly gets stuck with a cute girl. This time Miyako is saddled with a cute and mysterious boy. Their relationship is sweet, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Go buy it! 🙂
