I picked this one up after deciphering a plot summary on a Japanese site. It sounded very very silly, and I couldn’t resist! And yes, shiny bright colors on a manga cover attract me. Wooo shiny colors! Heh. The art in this feels very simple and cute to me. Yeah, not a very good description, but it’s the best I can come up with at the moment. I have to wonder where mangaka get some of their plot ideas. My scanner wasn’t behaving very well when I scanned the interior pic shown below. The art looks better than that, really. I don’t think I have anything else from this author. I’ll have to see what else she has done. This is Beauty Pop volume 1, so there is more story to come!
It’s a story of dueling rival hairstylists! Eheheh. Our heroine, Kiri, is a rather quiet girl, but when she speaks she speaks her mind, and can be very blunt. She is kind of funny looking, with sleepy eyes and her hair in a short style. Kiri has a secret. Her family runs a barber shop, and Kiri has super hair-styling skills. She has this habit of stumbling across people who are suffering because of their bad hair, and she give sthem makeovers. Only they don’t recognize her because she is wearing this hat that shadows her face. But her hair ‘magic’ is incredible. But Kiri is very low-key about her makeovers. Meanwhile at Kiri’s school there are three guys who fancy themselves as makeover experts, each one with a specific field they specialize in. Kiri doesn’t think much of these guys, even though all the other girls in her school drool over them. The guys will often host makeover demonstrations in the assembly hall, where they pick a ‘lucky’ girl from the crowd and make her beautiful. again, Kiri is unimpressed. In particular Kiri clashes with Narumi, the hairstylist of the group. He is a very competitive guy, and strives to be the best. He and the other guys are baffled by the random makeovers going on at their school that are ot done by them. Who is this mystery hairstylist who is invading their territory?! Such a silly story 😀
I was surprised when this was later licensed and released in English by Viz!
