Hmm, I actually wasn’t sure if I should include this series on my site because the heroine really annoys me, but I think by the end of volume 1 she is starting to get a clue, so I will go ahead and post a summary here and hope that volume 2 will be an improvement ^_^; I don’t think this series is HORRIBLE (otherwise I wouldn’t even consider summarizing it here) but I admit that I wanted to give the heroine a good shake to get her back to her senses! This is an interesting series, but a good chunk of it is surprisingly violent and it disturbed me a bit. Ack, now I am starting to talk myself out of summarizing this! I figure that since I reacted so strongly to the series I might as well mention it, so I will push forward….

This is the story of Hina-chan, a high school student who has returned to her hometown after a 5 year absence. She, like many shoujo heroines, is determined to find a great boyfriend in high school. Hina has a strong, spirited personality, and is very enthusiastic, but I think she can be rather dense sometimes. One person who is happy to see that Hina has returned is her childhood friend, Kanata. He is cute, in a rough, sloppy sort of way. He likes Hina a lot, and is not happy that she has decided to go to a different school than him. In fact, he seems rather worried about Hina.

Hina’s new classmates seem unimpressed by the new transfer student, but the handsome guy she is assigned to sit next to is very interested in her. He confirms her name, and then, to Hina’s surprise, he asks her if she is Kanata’s childhood friend. But before Hina can barely reply yes to this, the guy punches her in the gut and knocks her out!

Wait, what? Her classmate punches her right in the middle of class?! Everyone in the class suddenly looks scared when the guy throws Hina over his shoulder and stalks out of class. Meanwhile, Kanata is sitting with his friends when he gets a horrifying call… it is Jyougo, his enemy, and he has Hina!

When Hina comes to, she is with her classmate. She doesn’t understand what happened, but soon realizes she is in a lot of trouble when she sees the guy has a whole gang of friends backing him up. What is going on here?!

It seems that during the 5 years Hina has been away, Her dear childhood friend, Kanata, has become a delinquent gang leader! He is very tough, and fights like a demon. Unfortunately for Hina, this means he also has enemies. Enemies who know that Kanata loves Hina, and who are willing to use her to get to him!

Poor Hina is now caught between two rival gangs- Kanata’s gang (which he actually named HINA in her honor!) and Jyugo’s gang. Jyugo is totally evil, but very cute, and he has a rather seductive appeal to Hina. This becomes a totally warped love triangle, and Hina must be strong if she wants to get through it!

However, because of the gang theme, this series can be rather violent. There are gang fights, and Jyugo does some horrible things that make me hate him. He puts Hina in some horrifying situations that to me would be absolutely unforgivable. It annoys me that he is being offered as a potential love interest because of how slimy he is. Hina annoys me too, because of her blindness when it comes to Jyugo’s evil, some really stupid things she does, and her attitude towards Kanata.

Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t all seriousness and fighting. There are some funny bits too, mostly involving Kanata, in the way that he is so devoted to Hina, and how he named his gang after her. Because of this, Hina is already infamous in town. Everyone’s reactions to her are funny. Kanata drawn with cat ears is cute too!

The violent tone may be changing by the end of the volume, and it seems like the next volume won’t be quite as unpleasant in that respect, so I will give it a shot 🙂 I have my fingers crossed that Hina really does get a clue here!
